Some of the most memorable travel experiences happen in small groups, where conversations flow easily and every corner of the city feels more personal. That was exactly the atmosphere on this peaceful Friday morning walk through Hanoi’s Old Quarter.
Angela Stenzel from Germany joined our guide Hans (Hung) for an immersive Hanoi walking tour, exploring the historical streets and vibrant daily life that define this ancient neighborhood.
The journey began near The Statue of the Fallen Heroes, where Hans introduced the historical background of Hanoi and the spirit of the Vietnamese people. From there, the walk continued toward the beautiful Ngoc Son Temple, located on the famous Hoan Kiem Lake. Crossing the iconic red The Huc Bridge, Angela enjoyed one of the most recognizable views in the city.
As the tour moved deeper into the Old Quarter, the atmosphere changed from peaceful lake views to the energetic rhythm of Hanoi’s streets. Walking through Ta Hien Street, famously known as Hanoi’s Beer Street, Hans explained how this lively street transforms every evening into a gathering place for travelers and locals.

The group then visited O Quan Chuong, the last remaining gate of the old Thang Long citadel. Standing beneath its ancient brick arch, Angela could imagine how merchants once entered the city centuries ago.
One of the most authentic parts of the experience was exploring Thanh Ha Wet Market, where local vendors sell fresh seafood, vegetables, and traditional ingredients. The colors, sounds, and energy of the market offered a genuine glimpse into Hanoi’s everyday life.

The tour continued through Dong Xuan Market, the largest traditional market in the Old Quarter. With countless stalls selling clothing, food, and souvenirs, the market perfectly captures the lively spirit of Hanoi.
Finally, the walk reached one of the most iconic landmarks in the city: Long Bien Bridge. Built more than a century ago, this historic bridge stands as a symbol of Hanoi’s resilience and history. From here, Angela could admire the peaceful Red River and the surrounding neighborhoods.
